Two Stevens Avenue residents were arrested and jailed Wednesday on charges in connection with a purse theft reported in late November, Princeton police said Thursday.

Shannon R. Oliver, 21, and Patricia L. Slayton, 41, were arrested at 8:34 p.m. after a police investigation related to a purse theft reported on Nov. 29 by Mary Ice, of Cadiz, said Lt. R.L. Howton.

Ice told officers that her purse, which contained personal items, including her credit cards, had been stolen while she was shopping at Peebles.

Officers investigating the theft were able to determine that the credit card had been used at Wal-Mart to purchase $343 worth of merchandise and at Radio Shack, where $323 worth of merchandise was purchased.

The card was also used at the Ideal Market, police said.

Officers were able to identify Oliver and Slayton from security camera footage of the credit card transactions, Howton said.

The pair was located at Peebles Thursday; they were detained and subsequently charged.

Officers then searched the pair’s residence and located some of the items purchased with the stolen credit card. They also found a small quantity of marijuana, controlled substances and drug paraphernalia at the residence.

Oliver and Slayton were charged with theft of property and three counts of fraudulent use of a credit card over $300.

Slayton was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Both were lodged in the Caldwell County Jail.

• Officers charged a 16-year-old juvenile with criminal mischief and contempt of court (violation of a court order) at 8:22 p.m. Tuesday, after an incident at a basketball game.

Officers encountered the juvenile, who was on court-ordered curfew, at the game and informed him that he had to leave because of the curfew.

The juvenile then became belligerent, police said. Officers took the juvenile into custody for the violation and placed him in a police cruiser.

The juvenile became combative and kicked the inside of the cruiser, causing damage to the door handle, police said.

The juvenile was charged and released to his mother.

• A McLin Street resident was injured in a four-vehicle collision in the 900 block of West Main Street at 7:16 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said a 1999 Chevrolet driven by Jessica Oliver, 19, of 410 McLin St., was westbound when Oliver failed to see a line of vehicles stopped in traffic.

Oliver’s vehicle struck the rear of a 1993 Ford driven by Michael Riley, 17, of 522 North Plum St., and a chain-reaction collision ensued.

Riley’s vehicle struck the rear of a 2005 Chevrolet driven by Sandra Brown, 44, of 297 Scottsburg Road.

Brown’s vehicle struck the rear of a 1998 Dodge Neon driven by Jessica Tucker, 17, of 1578 Rock Springs Road.

A passenger in Oliver’s vehicle, 19-year-old Megan Jackson, also of 410 McLin St., was injured when the vehicle’s passenger-side airbag deployed.

Jackson was transported by ambulance to the Caldwell County Hospital ER, where she was treated and released for injuries to the head and face.
