A South Seminary Street man was lodged in the county jail on theft charges Friday after U.S. postal inspectors alerted Princeton police to some questionable transactions on the online auction site eBay.
Audie Wayne Mabrey, 52, was arrested at 6:45 p.m. Friday on warrants charging him with two counts of unlawful access to a computer, first degree, and two counts of theft by deception over $300 after officers executed a search warrant at his residence, Maj. R.L. Howton said Monday.
On Wednesday, Dec. 6, city officers were contacted by U.S. Postal Service inspectors, who said that they had conducted an investigation into complaints they had received from individuals in two different states stating that Mabrey had listed items on eBay, sold them and never delivered them.
One complaint alleged that on July 22, Mabrey had listed 60 VendStar 3000 candy vending machines on eBay and sold them for $4,800.
Mabrey was paid for the items and allegedly never delivered them.
The other complainant stated that on Aug. 29, Mabrey listed a SnoCone lemonade trailer with supplies (commonly known as shaved ice, or Paradise Sno) and sold it for $4,850.
Police said Mabrey collected the money, but again failed to deliver the item.
Howton said officers executed a search warrant at Mabrey’s residence and seized numerous items including receipts, bank statements and computers.
Mabrey was taken into custody on the warrants and lodged in the county jail. Other charges are possible; investigation continues.
