A Dawson Road man and a Marion woman were arrested on numerous weapon and drug charges after a traffic stop by Princeton police officers early Thursday morning.
Jason Stallins, 27, and Melanie M. Twomey, 20, were arrested after their 1991 GMC was stopped on Hawthorne Street for having expired license plates, at about 1:21 a.m. Thursday.
During the investigation, officers determined that Stallins was wanted on a Hopkins County warrant and took him into custody, Maj. R.L. Howton said.
While searching Stallins, officers discovered a piece of aluminum foil in his pocket, with a small quantity of suspected methamphetamine residue inside.
Officers also found two loaded pistol magazines in his pocket, and, while searching the vehicle, discovered a loaded Springfield semi-automatic .45-caliber pistol under the front seat, Howton said.
Twomey was in possession of a prescription bottle, containing two Prozac tablets, with another person’s name on it. She was taken into custody and charged with illegal possession of a legend drug and expired license plates.
Stallins was charged with possession of a controlled substance, first degree, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. He was also served the Hopkins County warrant charging him with possession of drug paraphernalia and being a persistent felony offender.
Both were lodged in the county jail.
• Michael Kaminskas, 38, of South Harrison Street, was arrested on drug charges at 10:25 p.m. Wednesday after an incident at the Kangaroo Express on North Jefferson Street.
Howton said officers responded to the convenience store to investigate a complaint that a man was trying to trade drugs for a ride.
Officers investigating the complaint located Kaminskas, as well as seven Nurotin tablets, a suspected crack pipe with residue inside and a small quantity of suspected crack cocaine.
He was jailed on charges of illegal possession of a legend drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, second offense, trafficking in a legend drug and possession of a controlled substance, first degree.
• A complaint from an auto shop owner led to the arrest of a Wood Street man on multiple charges Wednesday night.
Earlier Wednesday, officers spoke with Larry Baker, the owner of Baker’s Auto and Body, at 305 East Legion Drive.
Baker said that sometime between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday, someone entered his garage by prying open a lock on the front door and stole a Pioneer AM/FM radio and CD player from a 1993 Chevrolet pickup belonging to Brad Goodaker.
The perpetrator also damaged the dash of a 1990 Toyota pickup belonging to Cheryl Vincent while attempting to steal a Kenwood AM/FM/CD player.
Charlie Wayne Batchelor, a suspect in the burglary, had been temporarily employed by Baker prior to the burglary.
Officers went to Batchelor’s residence to question him regarding the burglary. When he opened the door, officers detected an odor of suspected marijuana smoke coming from the residence.
Police seized a small quantity of suspected marijuana, several items of drug paraphernalia and the stolen Pioneer radio/CD player from the residence.
Batchelor also gave officers a statement admitting that he had broken into the shop. He was lodged in the county jail.
Also arrested was Andrew D. Smothers, 28, of Princeton, on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers seized a baggie containing 3.4 grams of suspected marijuana from his pants pocket. He was lodged in the county jail.
• Tamarah Schweizer, 30, of Seminary Street, Rockport, Ind., was arrested at 10:05 a.m. Wednesday on charges of operating a motor vehicle on a suspended operator’s license, criminal possession of a forged instrument and fraudulent use of a credit card over $100.
Officers stopped the 2003 Ford Schweizer was driving on West Main Street at 10:05 a.m.
During the investigation, officers discovered that she had several credit cards with another individual’s name on them, as well as a check that appeared to have been altered.
Schweizer’s vehicle also contained numerous items that had just been purchased at Wal-Mart with one of the credit cards in her possession.
Officers determined that the credit cards had been stolen from an acquaintance of Schweizer’s in Crittenden County, and that the check was forged.
Officers confiscated the check, credit cards and purchased items and lodged Schweizer in the county jail.
• A Wisconsin man was cited to district court on drug charges after a Christmas Eve traffic stop, police said Wednesday.
Jonathan M. Stewart, 20, of Sand Drive, West Bend, Wis., was charged at 9:51 p.m. Sunday with no insurance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal possession of a legend drug after police stopped his 1990 Toyota for traffic violations.
Maj. R.L. Howton said officers found a small quantity of suspected marijuana, a pipe, a Flexeril tablet and two Naproxin tablets.
• Ashley M. King, 24, of Caldwell Chapel Road, was arrested and jailed for driving on a suspended operator’s license after a police investigation of a vehicle collision shortly before 7 p.m. Monday.
Officers responded to the Chevron station on Ky. 91 North in reference to a minor accident without injuries.
While investigating, they determined that King’s license had been suspended for her failure to attend traffic school. She was taken into custody and lodged in the county jail.
• At 8:45 p.m. Saturday, officers charged a 16-year-old with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after an investigation at a West Main Street residence.
Howton said officers had gone to the residence in an attempt to locate an individual wanted on a Lyon County warrant.
When the juvenile occupant of the residence opened the door, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana smoke. Police found a small quantity of suspected marijuana and a small grinder with marijuana residue inside.
The juvenile was charged and released to parents.
• Stacey H. Turner, 36, of Adams Mill Road, Cadiz, was arrested at 7:56 a.m. Saturday on charges of DUI, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a legend drug after a traffic stop.
Police stopped the 1984 Ford Turner was driving on Varmint Trace for traffic violations. Investigation indicated Turner was impaired, and he was taken into custody. Police then found a small quantity of suspected marijuana, rolling papers and two Flexeril tablets. He was lodged in the county jail.
• James J. Williams, 39, of North Donnivan Street, was arrested at 3:25 a.m. Saturday on a Lyon County warrant charging him with two counts of failure to appear in court and one count of contempt of court. He was lodged in the county jail.
• Two women were referred to the county attorney’s office after a police investigation of an altercation at a North Harrison Street residence Sunday.
At 12:16 p.m. Sunday, Priscilla Harris, of 405 North Donnivan St., reported she had been assaulted.
Harris told officers that she had driven her ex-husband’s vehicle to the Dollar Store when an acquaintance, LaToya Hollowell, started yelling at her.
Harris said that she left and went to her residence. Hollowell then reportedly came to the residence, and a physical altercation ensued.
Harris said that she was not injured, and that Hollowell left when the police were called.
At 1:23 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Caldwell County Hospital in regard to a dog bite complaint.
Officers arrived and spoke with Hollowell, who said she had been bitten by Harris’ pet terrier during the altercation.
Both Harris and Hollowell were referred to the county attorney’s office.
• At 9:52 a.m. Monday, Junior Beavers, owner of Beavers Auto Service, 300 South Cave St., told police that sometime between 8 p.m. Sunday and the time of the report, someone threw several large rocks at his business and damaged the window, gutter and downspout.
Beavers estimated the damage at about $500.
• At 10:51 a.m. Wednesday, Bill Hobby, an employee of the Pennyrile Allied Community Services, reported that sometime over the holiday weekend, someone threw a rock through a window at the PACS office at 307 East Main St.
The damage to the window was estimated at $400.
Investigation into the vandalism continues.
