Thursday…

Aug. 9…Caldwell County Hospital EXERCISE FOR SENIORS will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday in the hospital basement.

Aug. 9…CLASS OF 1952 REUNION PLANNING MEETING is scheduled Thursday at 11 a.m. at Majestic House.

Aug. 9…The FREDONIA CLOTHES CLOSET will be open Thursday from 1-3 p.m. at the Fredonia First Baptist Church Family Life Center. (Old Fredonia School, use double door entrance at the back of the building.) Any person in need of clothing is welcome.

Aug. 9…The Caldwell County WATER DISTRICT board of directors meets Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at the district office on Market Street.

Aug. 9…The Caldwell County Free Clinic opens at 5 p.m. Thursday in the basement of Central Presbyterian Church.

Aug. 9…The Caldwell County Railroad Historical Society meets Thursday at 6 p.m. at the railroad museum.

Aug. 9…The Executive Board of the BHS/CC Alumni & Friends, Inc. will meet in the Butler Annex on Thursday at 6 p.m. to finalize plans for the 2007 annual meeting to be held on Sept. 8.

Friday…

Aug. 10…The Wetheads group will meet at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Pagliai's Restaurant for the regular monthly meeting. Hosts for the meeting will be Phillip and Katherine Hall. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.

Aug. 10…CLINTON MASONIC LODGE #82 F&AM will have a stated communication on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The meal is at 6:30 p.m. All brothers are urged to attend.

Plan ahead…

Aug. 11…A NATIONAL MARINA DAY celebration is planned on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Grand Rivers, Green Turtle Bay and Lighthouse Landing. Activities include games, waterslide, kayaks and boats. The schedule of events includes free sailboat rides at Lighthouse Landing from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; free trolley transportation from Green Turtle Bay through Grand Rivers and Lighthouse Landing from 1-10 p.m.; food vendors from 1-10 p.m.; Docker’s Grill open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Grand Rivers Street Dance at Green Turtle Bay with music by Southern Fry’d from 5-9 p.m.; Green Turtle Bay annual fireworks display at 8:30 p.m.

Aug. 11…The 43rd annual FREDONIA SUMMER FESTIVAL is Saturday at the Buddy Rogers American Legion Ball Park. T-Ball and baseball games begin at 8 a.m. A pet show is scheduled at 2 p.m., washer pitch at 4 p.m., gospel singing at 5 p.m., followed by a country music concert at 7 p.m. There will be prize drawings throughout the day, a 42-inch flat screen TV grand prize given away at the end of the day, and a hand-made quilt given to the lucky holder of a $2 donation ticket. A silent auction is open through the day. A number of games are planned, including football throw, golf, ring toss, bean bag toss, plinko and inflatables will be set up. Arts and crafts and information booths will be set up. A farm day presented by the Caldwell/Lyon County Cattleman’s Association and Caldwell/Fredonia YFA coincides with the festival. A tour of Fredonia’s “One-Room School” — the Wilson-Blair Museum — will be available with information provided at the farm day registration table.The food selection includes barbecue sold by the sandwich or plate — pulled pork, tenderloin and chicken; hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, sno cones, funnel cake, ice cream and homemade pies and cakes.

Aug. 11…A CAR SHOW is planned at Purcell on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Aug. 11…The Caldwell/Lyon County Cattlemen’s Association and Caldwell/Fredonia YFA will present a Farm Day on Saturday in Elbert and Linda Bennett’s hay field at the intersection of Hwy. 91 and Hwy. 70 in Fredonia. Fencing and GPS are the primary topics. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. with speakers at 9 a.m.

Aug. 11…The annual PERRY CEMETERY TRUSTEES meeting is planned Saturday at 9 a.m. at the cemetery. Persons who want more information can call 365-2710.

Aug. 11…Caldwell County CANCER SUPPORT GROUP meets Saturday at 9 a.m. at George Coon Library.

Aug. 11…The STANLEY WALKER BAND will play each Saturday night through Sept. 1 at the Kuttawa Center Pavilion at 7 p.m. There is no charge.

Aug. 11…The annual Miss Black Patch Princess and Junior Miss Black Patch Beauty Contest will be Saturday at 7 p.m. in Butler Auditorium. The pageants feature girls ages 8-11 and 12-15. The event is sponsored by the Caldwell County Historical Society.

Aug. 12…Gospel Temple Pentecostal Church will have HOMECOMING Sunday with morning service at 10 a.m., dinner from noon to 1:30 p.m. and afternoon service at 1:30 p.m.

Aug. 13…The LYON COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION will have a special meeting Monday at 6 p.m. in the District Conference Center. The agenda will be to set tax rates.

Aug. 14…Veterans and their families will be provided counseling and assistance in filing claims for state and federal benefits. This is a free service. For more information, persons can contact Renita Duff, Regional Field Representative, Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs (KDVA) toll-free at 877-662-0008. Duff will be in Princeton on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon at the City Hall Building.

Aug. 21…The Caldwell County REPUBLICAN WOMEN’S CLUB will hold the regular business meeting on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Pagliai’s. Guests are welcome to attend.

Aug. 25…CLASS OF 1988 REUNION PLANNING MEETING is scheduled Saturday at 9 a.m. at Peggy’s Cafe.

Aug. 25…The JANE NICHOLS CEMETERY MEETING is planned on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the cemetery. All persons interested in the cemetery are urged to attend.
