Caldwell County Youth Wrestling had a strong turnout this year, with over 50 wrestlers ranging from ages 4-13.

The youngsters’ schedule for the year didn’t differ much from what one would have seen at the High School level, with the Trigg County tournament starting off the season the first weekend of March and action continuing every weekend through March.

Tournaments were held at University Heights, Christian County, Calloway County, along with a home match.

Overall coaches Troy Nichols and Jason Walls felt that the boys and girls displayed a lot of hard work and dedication while at practice. That really showed when they participated in tournaments. Each tournament had about 100-200 contestants, which covered 6 different groups: 4-year-old, Pre-Kindergarten, Bantam, Midget, Novice and Schoolboy.

“It was a good experience for those that were new to the sport and allowed some of the more experienced wrestlers the chance to gain more in depth knowledge,” noted the coaches.

Nichols and Walls offered special thanks to the high school wrestlers, several parents, ex-wrestlers of the program, and all the Caldwell County youth wrestlers, “because we wouldn’t have been able to do all of this as successful as we did without your help.”
