Lady Tiger tennis team sweeps Madisonville (w/VIDEO)

Caldwell’s Claire Catlett comes to the net to return a shot during her singles match on Monday. Catlett, the No. 1 seeded player, won this match and the Lady Tigers went on to sweep Madisonville-North Hopkins 9-0 at the CCHS tennis courts.

The Lady Tiger tennis team swept nine matches from visiting Madisonville-North Hopkins on Monday, but Caldwell’s boys suffered their first setback in four outings, falling to the Maroons 5-4.

Both CCHS squads are now 3-1 this season.

In girls singles action, Claire Catlett defeated Veronika Wheeler 6-0, 6-0; Savannah Pepper def. Rakki Shah 8-0; Katherine Farmer def. Katelyn Brown 8-3; Drew Dillingham def. Haley Bustain 8-0; Annie Talley def. Yiwenna Chen 8-1; and Mary Mac Joiner def. Taylor Alexander 8-1.

In girls doubles competition, Farmer/Dillingham def. Shah/Brown 6-0, 6-0; Talley/Joiner def. Wheeler/Bustain 8-2; and Maggie Wetzel/Erin Harper def. Chen/Sidni Carney 8-3.

In boys singles, Caldwell won just two of six matches — Ben Scott def. Ches Thomas 6-0, 6-3; Matt Tittle was defeated by Stephen Porter 1-8; Will Oliver was defeated by Joseph Porter 2-8; Hunter Giannini was defeated by Austin Grove 9-8 (9-7); Clint Joiner def. Ethan Rutledge 9-7; and Jonathan Murray was defeated by Jake Atkins 3-8.

Two of Caldwell’s top players missed the match because of a class trip.

In boys doubles, Oliver/Giannini lost to Porter/Porter 1-6, 2-6; Scott/Joiner def. Thomas/Rutledge 8-2; Murray/Zach Adams def. Chris Clark/Yunan Yang 8-3.

Caldwell’s tennis teams were scheduled to visit Union County on Tuesday.

The local squads are slated to play at home again on Thursday when they entertain Lyon County at the CCHS tennis courts.
