Hopkinsville dealt Caldwell County’s tennis teams rare losses on Thursday, handing the visiting Tigers a 5-4 setback while beating the Lady Tigers 6-3.
Both local squads now sport 7-2 marks for the season.
In boys singles, Caldwell dropped four of six matches — Ben Scott defeated George Barnes 6-1, 6-2; Will Oliver lost to Carson White 5-8; Matt Tittle lost to Jim Adkins 7-9; Logan Hall lost to Casey Malloy 3-8; Hunter Giannini def. Rob Arnold 8-4; and Clint Joiner lost to Greg Campbell 2-8.
In boys doubles, Oliver/Giannini def. Malloy/Arnold 8-3; Hall/Joiner lost to Barnes/White 2-8; and John Paul Boitnott/Jonathan Murray def. Jay Lee/Evan Campbell 8-5.
In girls singles play, Hopkinsville claimed five of six matches from Caldwell — Claire Catlett def. Mackenzie Perkins 6-4, 7-5; Savannah Pepper lost to Danielle Kaye 2-8; Katherine Farmer lost to Mallory Perkins 0-8; Drew Dillingham lost to Helen Crenshaw 1-8; Annie Talley lost to Erin Engler 4-8; and Mary Mac Joiner lost to Lauren Satterfield 2-8.
In girls doubles, Farmer/Dillingham lost to Mallory Perkins/Crenshaw 0-6, 0-6; Talley/Joiner def. Engler/Satterfield 8-5; and Sarah Keel/Marion Murray def. Kayleigh Groves/Wendy Johnson 8-3.
The Lady Tigers did sweep four junior varsity matches at Hopkinsville. In singles, Kate Phelps def. Whitney Abernathy 8-6. In doubles, Maggie Wetzel/Larissa Patterson def. Zerconia Alleyne/Madying Sun 6-0; Shelby Blackburn/Sophie Van Hooser def. Rebecca Maiden/Gracie Davis 6-3; and Carson Riley/Kate Phelps def. Kristina Wallace/Juhee Kim 6-3. Caldwell’s JV girls are now 2-1.
In boys junior varsity action, Hopkinsville captured four of five matches. In singles, Andrew Knight lost to Ikumi Karro 5-8; Devan Oliver def. Les Gibbs 8-1; Corey McEnaney lost to Greg Campbell 2-8; and Lucas Crisp lost to Evan Campbell 0-8. In doubles, Chris McEnaney/Ian Brown lost to Karro/Gibbs 1-6.
Caldwell’s tennis squads had things easier on Tuesday when they swept 15 matches at Lyon County.
The Lady Tigers won their competition 9-0.
