A Princeton woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 24 in Trigg County Thursday morning.

Two other Princeton women, passengers in the vehicle, were airlifted from the scene, Kentucky State Police said.

Ruth D. Choate, 54, was eastbound in a 2002 Ford Expedition when the crash occurred at about 9 a.m. Thursday.

State police said Choate was approaching a slower-moving semi near the interstate’s 59-mile marker and quickly steered left to avoid rear-ending the semi.

The SUV missed the semi, but Choate lost control of the vehicle, which entered the center median and overturned.

Choate was ejected. The Trigg County coroner pronounced her dead at the scene.

Her passengers, 66-year-old Juanita R. Hollowell and 56-year-old Sylvia Hopper, both of Princeton, were not ejected but did sustain injuries.

Both were airlifted to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, police said.

Trigg County EMS assisted at the scene.

KSP Trooper Billy Over is continuing the investigation.
