Princeton Fire and Rescue units joined Caldwell County EMS and law enforcement units from multiple agencies at the scene of a two-vehicle collision that claimed the life of a Fredonia man Friday.

An elderly Fredonia man was killed and his wife injured Friday morning when their car collided with a log truck at the intersection of the Marion and Farmersville Roads.

Kentucky State Police said 83-year-old Phillip E. Hall was stopped on Ky. 139 at the intersection in his 2007 Cadillac CTS when the crash occurred at 9:15 a.m. Friday.

For an unknown reason, Hall attempted to make a left turn onto Ky. 91 and turned into the path of a 2000 International tractor-trailer loaded with logs.

The log truck’s driver, 66-year-old Ollie E. Ferrell of Salem, was unable to avoid a collision and struck Hall’s vehicle on the driver’s side, police said.

Both vehicles exited the roadway and came to rest off the south shoulder of Ky. 91, about a mile north of the Princeton city limits.

Hall, a retired businessman who had owned and operated a jewelry store in downtown Princeton, was pronounced dead at the scene by Caldwell County Coroner Eddie Pennington.

His passenger, 81-year-old Katherine C. Hall, was transported by Caldwell County EMS personnel to the Caldwell County Hospital and airlifted from the hospital to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

No injuries were reported to Ferrell. Both he and the Halls were wearing seat belts, police said. No charges have been filed.

KSP Trooper Nick Rice is continuing an investigation into the crash.

KSP Sgt. Stacey Blackburn, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department, Princeton Fire and Rescue and Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement also assisted at the scene.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
