A 17-year-old driver who led Princeton police on a vehicle chase through both the city and county was detained on multiple charges early Tuesday morning.

The male juvenile was being held until a court appearance Tuesday, police said.

The incident began at about 1 a.m. on South Jefferson Street, where officers attempted to stop the 2006 Chevrolet the juvenile was driving for traffic violations.

Instead of stopping, the juvenile accelerated, leading officers on a pursuit from South Jefferson Street to Grooms Lane, to U.S. 62 and back into Princeton.

The juvenile ultimately abandoned the vehicle in a field at the end of Woodlawn Court and fled on foot.

Officers apprehended the juvenile at his residence a short time later.

He was charged with driving on a suspended license, disregarding a stop sign, disregarding a traffic control device, reckless driving, first-degree fleeing and evading and three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, police said.

• City officers arrested a Muhlenberg County teenager for two counts of assault and other charges after he and his girlfriend, of Princeton, allegedly attacked two Dawson Road residents early Saturday morning.

Samuel A. Rolley, 18, of Central City, and 21-year-old Ashley C. Smith, of Highland Avenue, were arrested at 1:53 a.m. after officers responded to a disturbance in the 1800 block of Dawson Road.

Officers determined that Rolley and Smith had gone to the residence of Brian Bender, Smith’s ex-husband, and had assaulted him and his 15-year-old brother.

When questioned by officers, Rolley, who was intoxicated, gave a false name and date of birth to them. He also threw a beer bottle in the road, where it broke.

Officers determined Rolley’s true identity and discovered that he was wanted on a McLean County arrest warrant.

Rolley was taken into custody and jailed for two counts of fourth-degree assault, criminal littering, alcohol intoxication, giving a false name to police, and the McLean County warrant for failure to appear.

Officers also arrested and jailed Smith for criminal facilitation to commit a violation of a Kentucky EPO/DVO and criminal complicity to commit fourth-degree assault.

The charges, police said, stem from Smith taking Rolley to Bender’s residence to engage in a fight, knowing that there was an active domestic violence order between she and Bender.

• James R. Brasher, 24, of Stegar Street, was arrested at 3:57 p.m. Saturday on a charge of fourth-degree assault after a disturbance in the 300 block of the street.

Officers determined that Brasher, who had gone to his ex-girlfriend’s residence to retrieve his belongings, had become involved in an argument that turned physical when he assaulted the ex-girlfriend.

Brasher was taken into custody and jailed.

• Robert G. Dean, 51, of Mechanic Street, was arrested at 10:52 a.m. Sunday for public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance, third degree, after officers responded to a complaint that Dean was standing in the roadway on East Legion Drive.

Officers located Dean, who was impaired, and took him into custody. While searching him, officers found several small tablets, identified as Ativan, in a tin container in his pocket. Dean was jailed.

• Police are investigating a theft reported by Ollie D. Patterson, of the 300 block of Traylor Street, at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Patterson told officers that sometime betweeen 6 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Sunday, someone stole a Craftsman leaf blower, valued at $150, from his carport.

• Charity Boitnott, of the 1000 block of Maple Avenue, reported a burglary at 1:14 p.m. Friday.

Boitnott told officers that sometime between 6 p.m Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday, someone forced entry into her residence and stole two rings and approximately $200 in cash.

Boitnott told officers that the perpetrator(s) made entry by forcing open a bathroom window.
