Jim Whitener, 74, of Caldwell County, died Monday, June 30, 2008, at 10:24 a.m. at Caldwell County Hospital Emergency Room, of a sudden apparent heart attack.
A retired truck driver at Smith Coal Co., Army veteran and member of Donaldson Missionary Baptist Church, he was born Feb. 8, 1934, in Louisville, a son of the late James Edward Whitener Sr. and Thelma Stevenson Whitener.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta Engler Whitener; a son, Carl Whitener of New Albany, Ind.; two daughters, Judy Antle and Donna Blake, both of Louisville; two stepdaughters, Lannette Smith of Lyon County and Markita McCracken of Princeton; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Daniel (Bob) Whitener of Louisville; a niece; and a nephew.
Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, July 2, at 1:30 p.m. at Meeks Cemetery in Caldwell County with the Rev. Chris Turpin officiating.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home prior to the service.
