Princeton resident Shane Fortner has been named Rotarian of the Year by the Madisonville Rotary Club.

Fortner is the manager of the Fortner Gas Company office in Madisonville.

The third-generation family business, founded in Princeton in 1951, serves western Kentucky and parts of west Tennessee from offices in Princeton, Cadiz, Madisonville and Indian Mound, Tenn.

Fortner has been a member of the Madisonville Rotary Club since 2004.

He had been a member of the Princeton club since 1999 but moved his membership when the gas company’s satellite office in Madisonville opened.

He has served on the Madisonville Rotary Club’s board of directors, social committee and auction committee, including duty as auction chairman.

Outgoing Madisonville Rotary Chairman Kent Waide presented Fortner with the award.

“Shane is a great example of a true Rotarian,” he said. “He serves selflessly to help others.”
