On Bended Knees, The Night Rider Story has been read by thousands of people since it was first published 25 years ago. Now the author, First District Supreme Court Justice Bill Cunningham, may see his story on the big screen.

Cunningham, who first published On Bended Knees in 1983 with McClanahan Publishing House, Inc. of Kuttawa, recently signed an option agreement with director/writer, Geoff Browne of Boundless Light Productions, Inc., in Los Angeles. The screenplay will be written with the intent of producing a dramatic feature film based on this top-selling book.

“Few people today realize that the most sustained and violent uprising in America between the time of the Civil War and the race riots of the 60s was a farm revolt in West Kentucky and Tennessee between 1904 and 1909. This book is the story of millionaire James B. Duke of North Carolina and his astounding tobacco empire. It’s the story of an ingenious country doctor who led a highly organized secret fraternity of farmers from Kentucky and Tennessee in a bloody revolt against the impoverishing tobacco prices of the ‘Duke Trust.’ This true saga of America’s past is one of poverty, wealth, violence, greed, and heroism,” said the author.

Paula Cunningham, owner of McClanahan Publishing and wife of the author said, “My business started on my kitchen table with this book. We’ve kept it in print all these years.

“The book is intriguing; it continues to sell and we must have over 30,000 copies in print.”
