Caldwell County’s first-ever All ‘A’ Classic regional championship belongs to the boys golf team.

Tiger golfers shot a 334 on Wednesday to take top honors by nine strokes in the 2nd Region Class A tournament at Deer Lakes Golf Course in Salem.

Taylor Curtis and Andrew Knight each carded 6-over-par 78s to power Caldwell’s effort.

Corey Brown shot an 84, Daniel Taylor 94 and Ian Brown 138.

The team score is made up of the top four individual scores.

Crittenden County took runner-up honors in the regional at 343.

Livingston Central was next in the team standings at 370 while Lyon County shot a 377.

Caldwell is competing in the All ‘A’ Classic this season in golf, volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball.

Soccer is expected to play in the All ‘A’ Cup starting next season.

Caldwell became eligible when the All ‘A’ Classic changed its rules this year to include the 125 smallest schools in the state.

Previously, Caldwell had been just above the cutoff point, which had been 425 students in the top three grades, to qualify for the All ‘A’ Classic.

Caldwell’s golfers now advance to play in the All ‘A’ Classic state tournament on Saturday, Sept. 13. That event will be played at Gibson Bay Golf Course in Richmond.
