Today…

Sept. 3-5…The BLACK PATCH BOOK SALE continues at the George Coon Library from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Friday. The event is sponsored by Friends of the Library. A variety of books — children’s books, adult books, magazines, videos and CDs — will be offered for sale.

Sept. 3…The Princeton Kiwanis Club meets Wed­nes­day at noon at the Majestic House.

Sept. 3…The third annual Living Hope Pregnancy and Family Care Center, Inc., seminar is planned Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church. This year’s seminar is titled “ABC ‘A Better Choice’: Youth Rally.” Guest speaker is Brady Weldon, president and founder of the Brady Weldon Evangelistic Association, Inc. The event begins with a hot dog meal at 6:15 p.m., with the youth rally following at 7 p.m. Teens from area counties are welcome to attend.

Thursday…

Sept. 4…Caldwell County Hospital EXERCISE FOR SEN­IORS will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday in the hospital basement. The activity is free.

Sept. 4…A Princeton GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP will begin on Thursday with meetings the first and third Thursdays of each month from 10 to 11 a.m. in the basement of Ogden Methodist Church. The meeting is open to the public, and there is no charge.

Sept. 4…The FREDONIA CLOTHES CLOSET is open Thurs­days from 1-3 p.m. at the Fre­donia First Baptist Church Family Life Center. (Old Fre­donia School, use double door entrance at the back of the building.) Any person in need of clothing is welcome. The Clothes Closet is once again accepting clothes.

Sept. 4…HR Ministries will present HORSE WHISPERER Paul Dailey on Thursday at the City-County Park. The event begins with free pony rides at 4:30 p.m., music at 5:30 p.m. and Daily at 6:30 p.m.

Sept. 4…The Caldwell County Free Clinic opens at 5 p.m. Thursday in the basement of Central Pres­by­terian Church.

Sept. 4…GRANDPARENTS READING NIGHT is planned on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the playroom at Caldwell County Primary School. The event is in honor of Grandparents’ Day.

Sept. 4…FAMILY NIGHT is planned at Liberty Lodge #580 F&AM at Frances on Thursday. Potluck dinner is planned at 6 p.m. with the meeting at 7 p.m.

Sept. 4…The FREDONIA VALLEY HERITAGE SOCIETY meets Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Family Life Center of the Fredonia First Baptist Church. Ann Kimmel will speak about the Night Riders raid on the Rice Tobacco Factory.

Friday…

Sept. 5…A RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE is planned on Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Wal-Mart, located at 500 Hwy. 62 West.

Sept. 5…The Princeton Rotary Club bed race is planned Friday prior to the Black Patch Parade. Team signups will be held between 3 and 3:45 p.m. at the corner of West Main and South Harrison streets, next to Capitol Cinemas. Sept. 5…The annual BLACK PATCH PARADE is Friday at 5 p.m. in downtown Princeton. Lineup begins at 4:30 p.m. on the Butler West Main Street parking lot.

Sept. 5…The Alonzo Pennington band will perform an outdoor concert downtown at 6 p.m., following the conclusion of the parade.

Sept. 5…The BUTLER CLASS OF 1948 60TH REUNION is planned on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Princeton Golf and Country Club.

Saturday…

Sept. 6…The annual Black Patch Festival Street Fair is planned in downtown Princeton on Saturday from morning into the night. A variety of events and activities are scheduled.

Sept. 6…The PRINCETON KIWANIS CLUB BLACK PATCH PANCAKE BREAK­FAST is planned on Saturday from 6:30 to 10 a.m. in the basement at Ogden Methodist Church.

Sept. 6…The TRAIL OF TEARS WALK is planned on Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Trail of Tears Park on East Washington and Edwards streets. Walkers will assemble at 7:30 a.m.

Sept. 6…A BLACK PATCH arts and crafts fair will take place Saturday in Big Springs Park.

Sept. 6…Caldwell County Animal Rescue plans a series of activities for the Black Patch Festival on Saturday. Activities begin at 9 a.m. on the lawn at City Hall.

Sept. 6…The Caldwell County American Red Cross Chap­ter will host a preparedness fair from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday on the Princeton City Hall lawn and the adjacent section of East Main Street.

Sept. 6…National Wild Turkey Federa­tion (NWTF) Pennyrile Strutters Chapter will host Clint Coffey Memorial Jakes Day at the James Wilson Farm KY 70, Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, lunch provided. Persons can call 365-7246 for more info.

Sept. 6…Caldwell County CANCER SUPPORT GROUP regular Saturday meeting is cancelled.

Sept. 6…The Caldwell County Republi­can Women’s Club BLACK PATCH DOG SHOW is planned on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. on the Prince­ton City Hall lawn. Certificates and ribbons will be awarded to first and second place winners in 10 categories.

Sept. 6…The KNOTT HOUSE MUSEUM offers BLACK PATCH FESTIVAL TOURS. The historic site, located at 302 Nichols St., is on the National Register of Historic Places. Admission is free from 1-5 p.m. Persons who want additional information can contact Yvonne Dodge, director, at 365-5223.

Sunday…

Sept. 7…MT. PISGAH BAPTIST CHURCH HOMECOMING is planned Sunday. A special speaker, basket lunch and afternoon singing are on the agenda.

Sept. 7…A Caldwell County Sportsman Club membership TRAPSHOOT is scheduled on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the sportsman range on U.S. 62-East.

Sept. 7…CELEBRATE RECOVERY, a Christian 12-step pro­­­gram for addiction co-dependency, any other hurts, habits and hangups is planned Sunday at 5:30 p.m. in the Northside Baptist Church Sanctuary. A meal is served and the group extends a welcome to all interested.

Sept. 8…The Caldwell County Primary School SBDM COUNCIL will meet on Monday at 4:30 p.m. at the school.

Sept. 9…The Walnut Grove Baptist Church of Fredonia will present its first WOMEN’S CONFERENCE on Tuesday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. A meal is provided. Jennifer Kennedy Dean is the speaker. Sept. 10…The RADIANT RED HATS meet Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Lite Side Bakery and Cafe in Grand Rivers.

Sept. 11…The Caldwell County CLASS OF 1988 CLASS REUNION registration deadline has been extended to Thursday. Persons who have not received registration forms can contact the planning committee at 365-6609.

Sept. 12…The Wethead swimming group of the Trover Fitness Formula will meet Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Pagliai’s Restaurant. Margaret Fryar will be hostess. Anyone interested is invited to attend.

Sept. 13…Shep McDowell will be making his bicycle cancer awareness ride to Nashville on Saturday. This will be Ride to Music City X. Mc­­Dowell will leave from Cedar Bluff Bap­tist Church parking lot at 5:30 a.m. There will be a prayer service at 5:15 a.m. Everyone is welcome to come out and support him.

Sept. 13…A DEMOCRAT RALLY is planned Saturday at the Regional Fire Training Center. Lt. Gov. Daniel Mon­giardo is the featured speaker. Food is available. The Caldwell County Demo­­cratic Women’s Club will conduct a silent auction.

Sept. 13…Kuttawa Flotilla U.S. Coast Guard Auxili­ary is offering a one-day free safe boating class on Sat­­urday at the Lyon County Public Library in Eddyville. The class begins at 7:30 a.m. and concludes by 4:30 p.m. There is a nominal fee of $20 to cover the textbook and materials. Some of the subject matter covered in the course includes: Know Your Boat, Before You Get Underway, Navigating the Water­ways, Operating Your Boat/PWC Safely, Legal Re­­quirements of Boating, Boat­ing Emergencies…What to Do, and Enjoying Water Sports with Your Boat. Sept. 14…An ICE CREAM SOCIAL is planned Sunday, 2-4 p.m., at Rose Hill, the Lyon County Museum in the historic district of Old Eddyville.

Sept. 18…The Caldwell County RE­­PUB­­LICAN WOMEN’S CLUB will hold its regular meeting Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Majestic Steak House. Visitors are welcome.

Sept. 19-21…A benefit rally, poker run and auction has been scheduled at 10915 S. Jefferson St. in Caldwell County to raise funds for Tori Oakley, 13, who is battling can­cer. Admission is $15 per person and allows camping, participation in the poker run and entertainment. Gates open for camping at 3 p.m. Fri­day, Sept. 19, with entertainment by a DJ. The poker run takes place Saturday, Sept. 20, with the first bike out at 10 a.m. and the last bike out at noon. An auction will follow. Entertain­ment will be provided from 8 p.m. to midnight by Russ Calhoun and Cum­berland Road. Volun­teers and foster families are being recruited to assist the program locally. Staffed by volunteers, the Caldwell County Animal Res­cue facility, located between Food Giant and the ball fields on Cadiz Road, is open each Monday, Wednesday and Fri­day from 4-6 p.m.
