Wednesday, November 12, 2008

Win or lose this week, the 2008 football season has already been another record-setting campaign for the Tigers.

Senior Eric Faughn now owns Caldwell County career marks for receptions and receiving yardage.

Faughn has 87 catches for 1,343 yards over the past three seasons, pushing him to the front of those lists.

Byron Copeland had held the receptions record with 81 catches from 1986-87.

Matt Tittle had been the yardage leader with 1,184 yards from 2006-07.

Faughn’s 12 career touchdown catches are tied for second all-time with Cameron Williams, Mo Hollowell and Fred Gray. Tittle still owns that mark with 19.

Faughn is also chasing some single-season records.

His 811 yards receiving this year are the second-most by a Caldwell receiver. Williams had 837 yards receiving in 2006.

Faughn’s 48 grabs this season are tied for second with Copeland. Williams owns that record as well with 61 catches in 2006.

Senior quarterback Will Barnes already owns virtually every career passing record at Caldwell. He also set single-game records earlier this season with 314 yards and seven TDs against Reidland.

Barnes is within reach of some of his own single-season passing marks. With 156 completions this season, he needs 12 to eclipse the mark he set two years ago.

Barnes has passed for 1,876 yards this year. The single-season record is just 176 yards away — 2,052, set by Barnes in 2006.

Barnes has thrown 19 touchdown passes this year — tied with his total last year and Bradley Stallins in 1997. The record is 24, set by Barnes in 2006.

For his career, Barnes has completed 488 of 785 attempts for 5,929 yards with 20 interceptions and 62 touchdowns. That puts him well within reach of 500 completions, 800 attempts and 6,000 yards — all far and away Caldwell records.

His 62.2 completion percentage is easily the best ever for a Tiger signal-caller.

Sophomore Brandon Sigler’s 41 receptions this year are fifth on the single-season list. He has 55 career catches, which is seventh all-time.

Junior Tron Gray needs one more sack to tie Kelly Tinsley for the career mark in that category. Tinsley recorded 15.5 sacks from 1997-2000.

Sophomore Glenn Gray has kicked 26 straight PATs. The record for consecutive extra points belongs to Dean Sears, who made 30 in a row from 1994-95.

Junior Jaquan Glover had a 92-yard touchdown run at Union County earlier this season. That tied him with Bobby Joe Thacker for the second-longest Caldwell touchdown run ever. Jerrold Fuqua had a 97-yard TD run against Marshall County in 1997.

The 315 points scored by the Tigers this season is the 10th most. If Caldwell’s 31.5 per game average was the hold up, it would be the fourth highest in a season. The 1998 state championship team holds the records with 514 points and a 34.3 average.

Earlier this year, the Tigers set records by routing Reidland 76-7. Caldwell’s point total is a single-game record as is the 63 points scored in the first half. The 69-point margin of victory is another school mark.
