Laura Beavers, wife of Princeton native Joe Dan Beavers, won big on Monday evening’s episode of “Wheel of Fortune.”

Beavers, a high school English teacher, won $15,900 in cash and prizes, including a tour of Central America with stops in Guatemala and Honduras.

She solved five of the game show’s word puzzles to defeat the second-place contestant by more than $8,000.

Laura advanced to the show’s bonus round but could not come up with “Kilograms,” the bonus puzzle’s answer.

She would have won an additional $30,000 if she had solved the bonus round.

Joe Dan, a 1996 Caldwell County High School graduate now serving as director of finance for LifeSkills, Inc., in Bowling Green, was also televised briefly, offering encouragement as his wife entered the bonus competition.

Laura, Joe Dan and Laura’s brother flew to Los Angeles in mid-November to tape the episode.
