The Tradewater Pirates and the City of Dawson Springs invite everyone to attend the annual fireworks display to be held at historic Riverside Park this Friday night.

The Pirates will host the Owensboro Oilers in a 7 p.m. contest, with the postgame fireworks show expected to begin around 9:30 p.m.

There will be an entrance fee of $5 per carload for this event. For those who purchase tickets for the game, there will be no additional charge for the fireworks.

The Pirates are a summer collegiate ball club affiliated with the KIT (Kitty) League.

The fireworks display will be presented by Melrose Display, a nationally known fireworks company, again this year.

Riverside Park is the re-creation of a field where a number of major and minor league ball clubs conducted their spring training exhibition games during the early years of the 1900s. Such teams as the Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds and Boston Red Sox, along with Hall-of-Famers including Honus Wagner, conducted exhibition games at the site.

The Pirates carried a 14-12 record into action Tuesday night at Sikeston, Mo., which put Tradewater a game and a half out of first place in the league standings. Fulton, at 15-10, leads the circuit, with Owensboro (13-10) second and the Pirates third.

Tradewater is off today (Wednesday) and will visit Owensboro on Thursday prior to hosting the Oilers on Friday.
