Far western Kentucky will have four rooting interests in the state football championships next week in Bowling Green.
Mayfield is back in the Class A title game after routing Beechwood 38-0 Friday night. Mayfield will take on Lexington Christian in the state finals.
In Class 2A, Ft. Campbell will go for its third straight championship next week after holding off Monroe County 30-16 in a game played at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn. It’s believed to be the first Kentucky playoff game to actually be played outside of the state. The top-ranked Falcons will take on Louisville DeSales in the 2A finale.
Paducah Tilghman, which finished the regular season 4-6 and the No. 3 seed in its district, is headed to the finals after upending Louisville Central 24-21 Friday night. Tilghman will take on Somerset for the state championship.
In 4A, Lone Oak continued its undefeated run by beating Marion County 45-28 and will play in the state title game for the second time in three years. Lone Oak will face Boyle County.
In 5A, John Hardin and Ft. Thomas Highlands will squre off while 6A will pit Louisville schools Trinity and St. Xavier.
