A six-figure renovation project at the Princeton-Caldwell County Airport terminal building is set to begin soon, in the hands of an Allen County builder.
Coates Brothers Construction has been awarded the contract for the makeover, Princeton City Council and airport board member Jim Joiner said Monday.
Joiner told council members that Coates Brothers was the lowest bidder that met the project’s specifications.
Their bid was $107,750. Three other bids were also evaluated by the airport board.
Project consultants with American Engineers, the firm that designed the airport project, recommended the Scottsvile firm to the airport board, which approved the bid on Feb. 15, Joiner said.
The project involves installing men’s and women’s restrooms inside the terminal building, laying a new tile floor and adding new furniture.
Also, a 6-by-40-foot covered porch will be added outside the building, as will a new metal roof, new siding and stonework on the terminal’s exterior walls.
An extension will also be constructed on the building’s east end to allow for records storage.
The Federal Aviation Administration is funding 95 percent of the project’s cost. The state matched 2.5 percent, and the remaining local match is covered through airport land acquisition by the city.
No local funds will be expended for the project, Joiner said.
Coates Brothers will have 90 days to complete the project once work begins.
Joiner praised the project as a “continuation of economic and industrial appeal.”

The pickup is scheduled to run until March 26. Items should be at curbside by 7 a.m. on the first day of the collection. No callbacks will be accepted, city officials said.
