A Caldwell County teen has returned home after being hospitalized for treatment of injuries sustained in an accidental shooting Saturday night.
Sheriff Stan Hudson said 15-year-old Haydon Harralson was released from Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville Monday.
The incident occurred at 8:40 p.m. Saturday at the residence of Wendy and Brent McDowell, Harralson’s mother and stepfather, at 2909 West Fork Road in the Creswell community of northern Caldwell County.
Brent McDowell, a former Princeton police officer who now serves as chief of the Providence Police Department, accidentally discharged his .40-caliber Glock semi-automatic pistol; the bullet traveled across the room and struck Harralson, Hudson said.
The bullet struck his leg and elbow before lodging just under the surface of his abdomen, the sheriff said. “It was definitely accidental.”
Harralson was transported to Caldwell Medical Center and transferred to Vanderbilt.
