A traffic stop in Princeton Sunday morning led to a Madisonville man’s arrest for meth possession and other offenses.
Princeton police arrested Luther O. Burton, 40, of Eastview Drive, Madisonville, at 1:20 a.m. Sunday after stopping the 2008 Ford he was driving for traffic violations, Assistant Chief R.L. Howton said Monday.
During their investigation, officers confiscated a small quantity of suspected methamphetamine, glass pipes and suspected hydrocodone (Lortab) tablets, he said.
He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, first degree (meth), possession of a controlled substance, second degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Investigators also determined that Burton was wanted on outstanding Hopkins County warrants for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and two counts of failure to appear.
He was lodged in the county jail.

Stacy L. Sharp, 26, of Garden Acres, and Stacy M. Durham, 26, of Varmint Trace, were arrested at 4 p.m. Friday for theft by unlawful taking under $500.
Officers responding to a shoplifting complaint at Walmart were informed by the store’s loss prevention agents that Durham and Sharp had been observed concealing $75 worth of clothing items in a purse and attempting to leave without paying.
Once Sharp and Durham were in custody, police determined both were wanted on Hopkins County warrants — Sharp for theft by deception, and Durham for failure to appear.
Durham was also served McCracken County warrants for two counts of violating probation conditions and one count of failure to appear. Both were jailed.
