Founders Day activities in Eddyville are taking shape with the event less than three weeks away.

The annual celebration will be held Aug. 24-25 with activities planned around Eddyville. A handful of events are planned leading up to the weekend, including the annual Miss Founders Day pageant on Aug. 18.

Organized by Tracey Peek, this year’s pageant will feature minor changes. Girls ages newborn through 8 years and boys ages newborn through 2 years will compete at 11 a.m. in the Lyon County Convention Center. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. As in years past, this portion of the pageant will be open to both Lyon County residents as well as surrounding counties.

New this year, the 9-year old through 19-year old categories will only be open to Lyon County residents, or students enrolled in Lyon County Schools.

Girls ages 9 through 11 years old may compete in Sunday best or party dress; while ages 12 years old and up may compete in pageant or prom dress either long or short. Contestants in the youngest groups are asked to wear summer casual wear only.

Entry forms are available at Eddyville City Hall and must be turned in by Aug. 17 no later then 3:30 p.m.

A full schedule of performers is slated to take the stage in downtown Eddyville Aug. 24. Bands scheduled so far include Haleigh Martin, Stanley Walker, Michael Paul Castleberry, Leight July, The Paducah “Quickstep Cloggers” and CatDaddy.

Haleigh Martin, Michael Paul Castleberry, Leight July and The Paducah “Quickstep Cloggers” are also slated to play Aug. 25 following activities held throughout the day.

A karaoke competition is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 24 with a $100 grand prize.

The annual parade is scheduled for Aug. 25 along Fairview Avenue and Main Street. Events throughout the day include awards presentations, watermelon bust by Fredonia Valley Bank, corn hole competitions and free inflatables.
