Bluegrass on Beshear ... Pickin’ Life, an annual music event raising funds for pro-life crisis pregnancy centers in western Kentucky, is set to return to he lakefront stage on Oct. 9.
The event will be held on Lake Beshear at 307 Island Cove Lane in Dawson Springs, four miles southwest of Dawson Springs off Hwy. 672. The grounds will open at noon that day with the festivities running from 1 to 6 p.m.
Those planning to attend should bring lawn chairs and personal coolers are allowed. There is some walking involved, but organizers said, “Even though there is a short walk, we will have a volunteer staff to help people who need assistance in parking, and golf carts to bring them to the venue.”
Admission and parking are free. Some items offered at this year’s event include pork sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, sodas, lemon shakeups and baked goods, as well a lineup of musicians.
The event supports H.O.P.E. Clinic in Eddyville and Benton, Door of Hope Pregnancy Care Center in Madisonville, and Alpha Pregnancy Care Center in Hopkinsville.
There will be more than $3,000 in raffle prizes, with the top prize being $500. The event is family friendly. This year’s music will feature Alonzo Pennington, Classy & Grassy Bluegrass Band, Bright Life Farms Choir, Justamere Bluegrass Band and Mike Thomas and Friends.
The event has been held yearly since 2014, with the exception of 2020 due to COVID-19, and has raised $81,000 over that period of time. For this year’s event, a donor has pledged to match up to $12,000 of funds raised. All costs are defrayed up front, leaving 100% of donations, food and merchandise purchases going directly to the life-affirming pregnancy care centers being supported.
Anyone who would like to donate and can’t attend may send a check payable to “K of C Council 15181” with Bluegrass on Beshear in the memo line to: K of C Council #15181, c/o Jeff Smith, 307 Island Cove Ln., Dawson Springs, Ky. 42408.
