The Butler-Caldwell County Alumni and Friends Association — an event held in association with the Black Patch Heritage Festival — canceled its reunion for this year.
The reunion was scheduled for Sept. 12.
The cancellation of the reunion marked the first time since the event began in 1993 that the event was not held, a string of 27 reunions entering this year.
Bob Hayes, president of the alumni association, said the reunion was canceled because it could not safely meet without the possibility of spreading the coronavirus.
“We are sorry to have to cancel this event, but I’m sure people understand why,” he said.
The decision was made at the association’s executive board meeting June 11.
Hayes said the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Butler Building as R.E. Butler High School is approaching. Construction started in 1923, and it opened in 1924.
