CCHS football game canceled, playoffs begin Friday at Murray

CCHS senior Travion Samuel makes a run in the Tigers’ season-opening win against Crittenden County. Caldwell County visits Murray this Friday in the first round of the KHSAA playoffs.

The Caldwell County High School football game scheduled for last Friday at Christian County was canceled due to COVID-19 guidelines. The Tigers finished the 2020 regular season with a record of 3-3.

CCHS opens its 16th straight postseason venture this Friday when the Tigers — the No. 3 seed in Class 2A District 1 with a 1-2 district mark — visit Murray (5-3 overall, 1-1 in district).

Caldwell County fell to Murray in Princeton on Oct. 16 by a 41-34 overtime decision. CCHS senior Baron Wells came up just short of the goal line on the final play of the game, which determined hosting privileges for this playoff game.

In the other District 1 playoff matchup, Mayfield (7-1, 3-0) will host Ballard Memorial (0-7, 0-2). The winners of the Friday games will meet at the highest seed’s football stadium on Nov. 20.
