The Daughters of the American Revolution and Sons of the American Revolution will host a joint reading of the Preamble to the Constitution and Bill of Rights at 2 p.m. Sunday at Planters Park next to City Hall.

Organizers suggest that attendees bring a chair and wear at mask at their discretion.

The event is locally sponsored by the Gen. John Caldwell Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

The reading is in coordination with Constitution Week, which is held each year on Sept. 17-23. The celebration’s goals are to encourage the study of the historical events that led to the adoption of the Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787; to remind the public that the Constitution is the basis of America’s heritage and the foundation for it way of life; and to emphasize citizens’ responsibility to protect, defend and preserve the Constitution.
