Susan Campbell of Princeton released her first book on Friday, Aug. 21. The book is entitled “This is the first day of the rest of my life.”

Campbell wants to thank each person for the encouragement and help in getting the book on the market. She is grateful to local residents Rick Blackburn for the use of his photo on the front cover, William Carrington for the photo on the back cover, and New Direction Printing for bringing the book to fruition.

She was employed in the newspaper business 45 years where she began in the typesetting department and advanced from that position to Food Editor, Lifestyles Editor and columnist at The Times Leader. She penned a column, A Woman’s Point Of View, for 30 plus years.

Her columns covered a variety of topics, but she always loved seeing the humor in the normal everyday events that took place in her home, where her husband, the late Joseph Campbell Sr., two sons, Joe Campbell Jr. and Craig Campbell, along with a number of pets, mostly cats, put spice into her life as a woman in journalism, wife, and mother.

This compilation is an effort to share some humor, love, and other emotions for the enjoyment of the many readers who encouraged her to continue writing through books after her retirement in 2014.

In 2019, she returned to the workforce as secretary in the Maintenance Department at Kentucky State Penitentiary. She first worked there when she graduated college in 1968.

While this is the first book she has printed, it is not the first book she has written. “Life Out To Pasture,” the first book, she hopes to release by the holidays.
