Adsmore Museum is hosting a Black Patch Candlelight tour on Friday, Sept. 13 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Those in attendance will be able to tour the house with only candlelight to guide them through a reenactment of the Black Patch Tobacco War (1906) time. According to it's Facebook page, poor economic conditions and the Duke Trust forced dark-fired tobacco farmers in Caldwell and surrounding counties to take matters into their own hands.
On the night of Dec. 1, 1906, an armed group of 250 Night Riders took over the town of Princeton and dynamited the tobacco factories. As a pall of smoke from the burning warehouses hangs over the town, Mr. Smith and Mr. Garrett will meet at Adsmore with other community leaders to discuss the previous night's events.
Tickets for the tour are $12; those who want to attend can respond "going" on the event page on the Adsmore House & Gardens Facebook page.
They will be asked to reserve a spot.
