The Caldwell County Homemakers banquet held its annual banquet Thursday, Aug. 29, at the Caldwell County Extension Office. Sandra Roberts welcomed everyone in attendance and Ann Barnwell lead the group in the pledge to the flag. Roll call was conducted by Peggy Cox.

Sandra Roberts introduced guests and Ann Barnwell gave the invocation prior to a meal consisting of grilled chicken tenders, smoked ham, hashbrown casserole, home style green beans, tossed salad, strawberry cake and peach cobbler. The meal was catered by Mitzi Travis. Auctioneer Wayne Cash, assisted by Barnwell, conducted a dessert auction as a fundraiser for the homemakers. A collection for Ovarian Cancer research was held and $370.30 was collected.

Reading awards were given to Joan Kindrick, Dana Hobby and Marilu Stevens; these women read at least one book from six of nine different categories.

Door prizes were presented by Linda Crenshaw and Peggy Cox. Winners of these prizes were Glenda Gilkey, Doris York, Doug Morgan, Glenn Smiley, Misty Childress, Jamie Bates and Sandy Brown. The Candlelighters won best decorated table. Roberts gave closing remarks.
