The Land Between the Lakes Area Team of Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan's Purse, would like to invite the public to a Shoebox Kick-Off event on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 9-10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Princeton. The meeting will be in chapel of the church, which is located at 300 West Main Street.
Light refreshments will be provided. A limited number of Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes will be available at no cost to those attending and door prizes will be awarded.
"We are excited and thrilled about the opportunity for the local communities to learn more about Operation Christmas Child," Ruth Gray, Land Between the Lakes arena team coordinator, said. "We will have some of our area team members talking about the various aspects of it. This is a great opportunity for churches and community members to learn more about this ministry of Samaritan's Purse and become involved with it."
Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan's Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham. The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God's love in a tangible way to children in need around the world and, together with the local churches worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has collected and delivered more than 168 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 160 countries and territories. For many of these children, the gift-filled shoebox is the first gift they have ever received.
