Born and raised in Fredonia, Tim Rhodes has been actively writing songs and performing for the past six or seven years. And even though he still lives locally, he was having a hard time finding a place to showcase his talents.
“There’s nowhere for us local songwriters to congregate and show our skills,” Rhodes said. So, he began working on a solution.
Brainstorming with the owner of the local Black Patch Grille, Rhodes came up with the idea to host an open mic night for local singer/songwriters to be hosted at the restaurant. It held the first one on Thursday, Jan. 19, and Rhodes was pleased with the results.
He said there were seven songwriters total who attended, and the restaurant also did good business that night. The idea is that each performer gets the chance to perform a few songs with Rhodes acting as the host.
“We kind of swap songs and tell stories,” he explained.
They’re going to continue a trial run of the night for the next month, and Rhodes is searching for more local artists to perform. Those interested are asked to reach out to him either on Facebook or at timrhodesmusic1993@gmail.com.
There is no cost to perform, and there is currently no payment, either. Members of the public who would like to come watch the performances are invited to do so. It’s scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday evenings at the Black Patch Grille. The restaurant is located at 101 W. Main St. in Princeton.
