Princeton will host one of six workshops scheduled across the state to help prepare Kentucky Baptist churches to take the next step in missions involvement.
The February workshops are part of the “Every Church on Mission” initiative unveiled by the Kentucky Baptist Convention at last November’s annual meeting.
The workshop in Princeton will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Feb. 21 at Southside Baptist Church.
Eric Allen, KBC’s missions mobilization team leader, said he believes the workshops will provide practical help and resources so each participant can help lead their church to advance its mission work.
“As far as we know, some 25% of our churches have had no mission participation,” Allen said. “We are commanded to go, and KBC wants to help churches fulfill that commandment.
“For some churches, it may be taking a basic first step, such as praying for a missionary. Even a church with just eight people can do that.”
In urging Kentucky Baptists to take that next mission step, Allen said research shows that 41% of the world’s population is unreached while the number of Americans identifying as Christians has declined by 12%.
Allen stressed the workshops are not just for pastors. “In many of our churches, it may be a layperson, a WMU or men’s ministry leader — it is for anyone with a passion to see their church do more in missions. We believe the workshops will be a good way for people to learn how to lead and feel confident in mission work. We will have ideas that will match the needs of churches of all sizes.”
Each ECOM workshop will explore the four primary areas of missional engagement, teach participants how to assess their church’s level of involvement and provide resources for helping each church take its next mission step.
The other five workshops scheduled are:
• Kentucky Baptist Building in Louisville — Feb. 16, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
• First Baptist Church East Bernstadt — Feb. 16, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
• Living Hope Baptist Church in Bowling Green — Feb. 21, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
• Porter Memorial Baptist Church in Lexington — Feb. 22, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
• Fitzpatrick Baptist Church in Prestonsburg — Feb. 23, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
