L.D. Mathis, 91, of Princeton, and formerly of Dawson Springs, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, at his home.

Born April 5, 1928, in Howard County, Ark., he was a son of the late Robert Vernon Gatlin and Inez Lattie Gatlin. He owned and operated Mathis Milling an Sawmill and Mathis Tree Service and Auto Sales. During the past five years, he owned and operated “Mom and Pop Produce” in Princeton. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Princeton.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Wanda Jean Brewer Mathis.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Tony Winters of Dawson Springs, and Judy and David Miller of Henderson, Nev.; a stepdaughter, Marilyn Vaughn and husband James of Dawson Springs; a son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie and Josie Mathis of Dawson Springs; a stepson, Dennis McDaniel and wife Kathy of Morganfield; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Wynell Miller of Umpire, Ark.; and companion, Judy Tyrie of Princeton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs, with Chaplain Mark Miller officiating.

Burial will follow in Dunn Cemetery in Hopkins County.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to the service time Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will include Mike Ausenbaugh, Mark Miller, Randy Miller, Tony Gatlin, Mitchell Gatlin and Gary Gatlin. Honorary bearers will be Deon Ladd, Josh Tyrie and Marvin Tyrie.
