Ray Guess, 84, of Kuttawa, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019, at 11:15 p.m.
A son of the late Bradley and Madie Doom Guess, he was a member of Suwanee Baptist Church and had been a Sunday School adult men’s teacher for several years at Macedonia Baptist Church. He also had served as Macedonia cemetery trustee elder. He was retired from Southern States Ashland Oil as a transport operator, following 42 years of employment. He was a member of the Cattleman’s Association, former lodge president of the Lyon County chapter of Woodmen of the World, was a former board member of Bright Life Farms in Caldwell County, was a former member and trail rider/wagon master of National Trail Riders and Wagon Train Association. He was a former Kentucky Farm Bureau board member.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Marie Driskill Guess in 2018; and two brothers, Vernon Guess and Major Guess.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Rita Guess of Eddyville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty Kuiper of West Paducah, Mariesa and Ferlin Driver and Cathy and James Holsapple, all of Kuttawa; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 9, at 2 p.m. at Suwanee Furnace Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mike Farmer and the Rev. John Hagan officiating.
Burial will follow in Macedonia Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at Dunn's Funeral Home in Eddyville, and from noon to the service time Friday, Aug. 9, at the church.
