Roy C. Marquess Jr., 71, of Cadiz, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.

Born July 15, 1948, in Hopkinsville, he was a son of the late Roy C. Sr. and Lois Light Marquess. He worked for over 40 years as a plumber with Light’s Plumbing and Electric and the former Trigg Supply in Cadiz. He also worked in maintenance at Lake Barkley State Park. He surrendered to preach in the early 70’s, and served as pastor of several churches including South Road Baptist Church in Cadiz, Bumpus Mills Baptist Church in Tennessee and Bible Baptist in Eddyville. In 1995, he began serving at Parkway Missionary Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, serving there until his death.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Matilda “Tillie” McIntosh Marquess; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Brian Marquess, and Kevin and Stephanie Marquess, all of Cadiz; a daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Dusy Baggett of Paducah; four grandchildren, Ty England, Alexis England, Jeffery Baker and Adler Marquess; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Mayes and husband Earl of Greenville.

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept 6, at 2 p.m. at Parkway Missionary Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, with Bro. Don Moore and Bro. Richard Sexton officiating.

Burial followed in East End Cemetery in Cadiz.

Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz was in charge of arrangements.
