Caldwell County High School and the Lady Tiger softball team held an official college signing ceremony for senior Laney Jones in the Fine Arts Building Thursday afternoon, Feb. 23. Jones said, “I am pleased to announce that I will be continuing my academic and softball career at Midway University. I truly am excited to become a Midway Eagle.”

Jones, who is the Lady Tigers’ lead catcher, caught the eye of Coach Krystal Cammuse when filling in at shortstop unexpectedly, while picking up with a travel ball team last fall. Cammuse noted that Jones had a heart for the game and the hard work she puts in on the field would make her an asset to the team. Jones said she signed with intentions to catch, but noted that her vast experience in the field could put her in several positions.
