The Caldwell Lady Tigers advance to the Second Region semifinal round after beating Christian County 11-10 Saturday afternoon in extra innings.
Caldwell got off to an explosive start scoring seven runs in their first at bat. Their big opener was thanks to double home runs from Alicia Stanley and Pitcher Alexis Wood. Caldwell also got a double from Adley Lewis and singles from AJ Hollowell, Harper Holeman, Brylee Butts and Presley Mckinney.
Christian retaliated with five runs of their own. Karlee Crick got things started with a two run homer out the center field fence. Shaw followed with a solo home run to make it 7-3.Before the inning was over Caldwell held just a two run lead 7-5 after two batters were hit by a pitch and a series of singles.
Christian tied things up in the bottom of the 4th when Crick singled home a run followed by Jayda Turner’s sacrifice fly to right field plating Brittan Joiner to knot the game 7-7.
Crick gave Christian the lead for the first time in the fifth inning with a long ball over the center field fence once again. The three run homer would be all that Christian would score before Wood got control of the game again, but the damage was a staggering 10-7 lead with just two at bats left for Caldwell.
Adley Lewis’ lead off double was dead in the water when the next three batters either ground out or struck out, leaving Caldwell one last attempt in the top of the 7th to tie it up or take the lead.
Hollowell doubled home a run to make it 10-8 and Holeman’s long line drive scored two runs to even the game once again 10-10.
Back to back plays at third from Bryle Butts staved off a Colonel comeback just in time for Caldwell to regain the lead in extra innings.
Two players hit by a pitch paired with a single from Lainey Jones loaded the bases for Holeman to walk in the winning run, 11-10.
Adley Lewis was 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles and two runs batted in for Caldwell. Holeman and Stanley were each 2-for-5. Holeman drove in three and Stanley had two RBI. Hollowell finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Wood claimed the win in the pitching circle. She allowed seven runs on 14 hits in eight innings striking out one and walking one.
