Caldwell County Tigers wrestling placed second out of eight teams at the Laker Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 21 in Murray. The Tigers had six individual champions, while scoring 134 total team points just behind Fort Campbell which placed first with 153 total team points. Owensboro Catholic took third with 96 points and host Calloway County finished fourth with 80.5 points.
The spotlight fell on senior Colin Teutsch, who was named Most Outstanding Wrestler. Teutsch claimed the invitational’s top individual honors after a championship title in the 126 weight class. Tuetsch (35-5) defeated Zacariah Taylor of Kenwood, Tennessee, 26-10 in his first match and pinned Jayden Perry, of Fort Campbell, in 1:00 before a 16-3 decision over Dylan Linnemeier (30-12), of Fort Campbell, in the championship match.
Justin Klidzejs (25-8) finished first in the 106 weight division. Klidzejs pinned Andy Cintron, of Fort Campbell, in just 19 seconds in his first round match. Klidzejs pinned fellow Tiger teammate Elijah Kirby in the second round to advance to the championship match against Ryker Kramer, of Fort Campbell, (27-14). It took Klidzejs just 1:36 to take the match by fall. Kirby (15-8) finished third at 106 after pinning Cintron (7-11) in 2:38 in his final match.
Andre Carter went 4-0 to add 23.5 points to Caldwell’s team points, the most of any of the wrestlers. After a first round bye, Carter defeated Juan Cannon in the second round by pin in 3:27 and Chaz Mohen, of Owensboro Catholic, by technical fall 16-1 in the third round match. Carter pinned Bart Pheh in 1:01 to advance to the championship round where he claimed first after pinning Cannon in 1:10 in the 113 weight division.
Logan Brown (34-6) won the 120 weight class. After a first round bye, Brown took just 30 seconds to win by fall over Eithan Cassell (17-16), of Fort Campbell, before a 17-2 decision over Jacob Jones Hamilton (11-7), of Calloway County.
Senior Cofy Walls (38-4) claimed a championship title in the 132 weight class. After pinning Seth Frey, of Owensboro Catholic, in just eight seconds and Robert Warmouth, of Fort Campbell, in just 13 seconds in rounds one and two respectively, Walls won by technical fall 20-5 to finish first.
Timothy Nichols (35-4) finished first in the 138 weight class. Nichols defeated Tewon Thomas, of Hopkinsville, by fall in 1:27 before a win by forfeit sent him to the championship round where he won a major decision 13-2 over Sean Johnon (18-6), of Kenwood, Tennessee.
Tigers wrestling will travel to Bardstown on Saturday, Jan. 28 to compete in the KYWCA 1A State Dual Championships.
