Katy Smiley collected a double-double against Owensboro, with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Owensboro used a strong second half to defeat the Lady Tigers 67-54 despite an 8-point Caldwell County lead at halftime Saturday. The Region 2 and Region 3 teams met up as part of the Western Kentucky Showcase at Crittenden County over the weekend.

Paris Gray and Katy Smiley both still walked away with a double-double. Gray finished with 21 points while Smiley had 11. Both girls collected 10 rebounds each.

Caldwell led in the first quarter by as much as 18-8, but two late Lady Devil baskets cut the Lady Tiger lead 18-12. A buzzer beater from Smiley sent the Lady Tigers into half time still ahead 31-23.

Little by little, Owensboro chipped away at the Lady Tiger lead, pulling ahead 47-43 by the end of the third quarter. Caldwell managed to get within 3, 53-50 with just over four minutes left to play when Brylie Butts went 1-for-2 at the line. An 8-point unanswered spurt from the Lady Devils quickly closed the window 61-50. The Lady Tigers spent the final minutes matching Owensboro basket for basket, but never could make up the lost ground from earlier in the frame. Butts finished the night with 11 points.
