The Lyon County Lyons earned a sweet 63-48 Valentine’s Day victory over the Caldwell County Lady Tigers on Tuesday night, Feb. 14 at the CAB in Princeton.
Caldwell used a 7-0 run to take the early lead, but Lyon regrouped to counter with a 13-0 run to take the 13-7 lead with just over a minute left to play in the opening quarter. A basket just ahead of the buzzer from Ella DeFew gave the Lady Lyons a 15-8 margin.
Tink Clark, who had 22 points to lead Caldwell, scored half of those in the second quarter to match a combined effort from Lyon County’s Courtney Collins and Lilly Perry for the 32-24 margin going into halftime.
Caldwell got a quick start in the second half with a 3-pointer and a layup from Clark to get as close as 32-29. It was short lived as Lyon put together a 10-0 run spurred on a three from Trinity Taylor and finished off on a three from Lilly Perry. Caldwell’s only counter was a 3-pointer from Presley McKinney as Lyon took control of the contest for good 38-49 going into the final frame.
Lyon shot 6-for-7 from the line in the final eight minutes. Perry was a flawless 4-for-4 to finish out the 63-48 margin.
Nyla Sykes finished with eight points for Caldwell, all in the fourth quarter, to score all but two of the Lady Tigers points in the final eight minutes. Sykes also led the Lady Tigers’ rebounding efforts with eight rebounds.
Taylor topped the Lady Lyons with 17 points and seven rebounds followed by Perry with 14 points and six boards. Collins added 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
