Lady Tigers beat Christian County on the road

Junior Majah Hollowell drives toward the basket against Christian County’s Mikayah Killebrew Monday in the Lady Tigers’ 61-51 win in Hopkinsville. Hollowell finished with 17 points in the game.

Caldwell County got its first competition since the Second Region All “A” Classic semifinal on Thursday, beating host Christian County 61-51 Monday in the Lady Colonels’ first game this season.

Christian County finally got to see the start of the season, but Jacey Jaggers and the Lady Tigers (2-2) spoiled the Lady Colonels’ season opener at Lyle Dunbar Gymnasium.

“It showed that Caldwell had a couple of games under their belt because they were just a team — they were out there clicking,” Christian County head coach Kiki Radford said. “I’m proud of how we started the third quarter, but we’ve just got to have a complete game no matter the fact that we’ve only had a couple days of practice. We’ve just got to be ready to go when we have that opportunity to step onto the floor.”

With the Lady Colonels up 49-48 midway through the fourth, Jaggers lifted her team up, scoring 10 of the final 13 points for Caldwell down the stretch to secure the 10-point win. The Lady Tigers ended the game on a 15-3 run. Jaggers finished with a game-high 24 points in the win.

It also spoiled the return of Trinity McGee to the court.

The senior played her first game following a season-ending knee injury last year. After a scoreless first half, McGee returned to form, scoring 12 second-half points, keeping the Lady Colonels in the race for the win.

Radford said McGee forced it a little in the beginning, but started to get into a rhythm in the second half.

Caldwell County trailed 24-23 at the half and 44-41 after the third quarter.

The Lady Tigers ere led by 24 points from Jaggers and 17 points from junior Majah Hollowell.
