With all Caldwell County boys soccer cancelled for the week due to COVID-19 RPI policy, the Lady Tigers took center stage with their 3-0 win over Muhlenberg County last Monday.
This marks the Lady Tigers third win of the season. The last two shutout wins came after a tough five-game losing streak.
Laken White was the first Lady Tiger to hit the net. Lady Mustang Goalkeeper Riley Hafley deflected a shot from Caldwell’s Addie Cagle, but couldn’t quite hold on it. White seized the opportunity and followed up with a hard shot into the opposite corner to put the Tigers on the board 1-0.
Kendall Boyd put the long shot in about 10 minutes later on a midfield pass from Hadley Hall, making it a 2-0 ball game.
A Caldwell County corner kick attempt just minutes before half time nearly slipped behind the goalie, but Muhlenberg’s defender Paige Littlefield deflected the shot to keep it a 2-0 game going into the half.
Even with Lady Tigers outshooting the Lady Mustangs 24-8, the clock ticked away for over 30 minutes in the second half before the Lady Tigers could add any insurance.
A crossed pass from Boyd to the right side of the field where Mariah Merritt was waiting in scoring position finished the Mustangs off 3-0.
Boyd and Merritt picked up their first goals of the 2021 season.
McClung is credited with 6 saves for the night bringing her season total to 32.
