Former Caldwell County football star Jaylen Boyd has already opened the 2020 campaign with an accolade, when earlier this week Lindsey Wilson College officials announced Boyd was one of five Mid-South Conference gridders was named to the College Football American 2020 Yearbook Starting Lineup.
Penned in as an all-purpose athlete for special teams, Boyd was named a 2019 AFCA-NAIA and Associated Press NAIA All-American in 2019 after posting 1,839 all-purpose yards and 16 total touchdowns.
Over the last two seasons, Boyd has started in 16 games and appeared in 23, rushing for 1,795 yards on 254 carries (a 6.9 yards-per-carry average) with 19 rushing touchdowns. He’s only lost 39 yards from the line of scrimmage in two seasons, too, while adding 45 catches, 522 yards receiving and four receiving touchdowns. He also has 18 kickoff returns, with a long of 54 yards in 2018, and a long of 94 yards in 2019.
Meanwhile, Lindsey Wilson has received a No. 3 preseason ranking in the College Football America Yearbook NAIA Preseason Top 30 poll, after finishing a program-best 12-1 in 2019 — reaching the semifinals of the NAIA Football Championship Series for the first time in school history and earning the program’s third Mid-South Conference championship.
Four other MSC opponents are in the poll: Cumberlands (Kentucky) at No. 5, Keiser (Florida) at No. 9, Reinhardt (Georgia) at No. 14, and Southeastern (Florida) at No. 19.
Defending NAIA national-champion Morningside (Iowa) opens at No. 1, with Grandview (Iowa) at No. 2, and Marian (Indiana) at No. 4.
