Tigers prepare for regular season finale at Trigg County

Caldwell County's Baron Wells made big plays in the Tigers' 42-40 win over Murray High in week 9.

After the late-October bye week, Caldwell County (7-2) should now be fully rested after Halloween night on Thursday to finish out the 2019 regular season at Trigg County to cap off their second road swing on November 1.

The Trigg County Wildcats (5-6 under Coby Lewis in 2018) will prove a most familiar foe, as these two teams have seen each other every year for over 20 straight seasons.

Trigg County comes in at 6-3, winners of their last two ball games, and the streaks have come in the bunches.

Trigg County started the season 4-0 before a three-game losing streak bumped them back a bit.

Caldwell County is 11-10 in the last 21 regular season meetings with Trigg County, and have not lost to the Wildcats since 2012.

Ironically, that loss to Trigg County came the very same season that Caldwell got to the 2012 state championship game, and is memorable for being called early with 5:42 seconds remaining in the game.

The Tigers are fresh off of the greatest comeback win in program history, overcoming an 18-point deficit to take down Murray High at Ty Holland Stadium nearly two weeks ago, getting huge contributions from Tripp Branch, Tate VanHooser, Max Ashley, Ben Holt, DeEric Hollowell (four rushing TDs and 106 yards rushing) and their quarterback in Russ Beshear (22-for-27 in the air for 280 passing yards and two TD completions) as Caldwell County now goes for their 8-2 regular season record under interim head coach Waynee McGowan.

Trigg County comes off a 33-7 win over Union County, and will bring out quarterback Cameron Jordon as their top threat.

Jordon has 74 pass completions in 144 attempts with 1354 net passing yards, five interceptions and 16 TD passes this season. Jordon has also rushed for 567 yards and 15 rushing touchdowns in 106 attempts at 63 yards per game.

Cade Bleidt also has nine rushing TDs this season on 458 yards rushing, while leading the team with 106 total tackles and a sack.

The top threats in the air will be receivers Kion Thompson (333 yards gained n 14 catches with four TD catches), Andrew Syester (300 overall yards with five TD receptions) and JaKobe Bridges (three scores and 23 receptions on 250 yards).

Trigg County might not be the threat they once were in years passed, but they'll have some pieces back to make the regular season finale' interesting, returning quarterback Jordan (1508 passing yards last season with 12 TD pass completions and 15 rushing touchdowns for 933 net rushing yards) and wide receiver Bridges (738 receiving yards with nine TD receptions as Jordan's top target) are back for their senior campaigns.

Bridges was the only Trigg County receiver with more than one touchdown catch last season.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Cadiz in what will be the regular season finale.

With Caldwell County fresh off of their bye week and looking ahead to the regular season finale at Trigg County Friday night in the 139 Bowl, here is a look at the current team and individual statistics through nine games.
