The Caldwell County Tigers baseball team celebrated Senior Night with a 15-5 win over University Heights Academy in just six innings on Monday, May 2. It was also a good day for junior Hunter Newsom, who hit a two-run homer to tie things up 5-5 in the bottom of the third inning before Caldwell County ran away with the lead in the bottom of the fourth.

Caldwell County had led 3-0 since the bottom of the first until UHA put up five runs in the top of the third. The five runs UHA scored in the top of the third would be the only runs it saw all night. The 5-3 lead was short lived as Newsom tied things up in the bottom of the inning and the very next at bat the Tigers added seven more. Singles from Deontaye Walls, Brady Holeman and Jamus Carneyhan kicked it off, while Newsom finished the inning with an RBI double. Caldwell County took advantage of UHA errors in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to add the final three runs needed to end things in a 10-run mercy rule in just six innings.
