The Caldwell County volleyball team swept University Heights 2-0 Saturday in the Second Region All A Tournament at Livingston Central High School.
The Lady Tigers (3-1) won the match 25-10, 25-14 in the only match reported from the tournament.
Senior outside hitter Olivia Mitchell led the offense with a team-high 10 kills, while senior middle blocker Abby Griggs had six.
On defense, junior outside hitter Mary Tays had five digs, while Mitchell, senior setter Kendall Prowell and junior defensive specialist Adison Sullenger each had three.
Prowell had a team-high 18 assists for CCHS, while Griggs had a team-high three blocks and Mitchell, Griggs and Tays each served up two aces.
Caldwell County beat Crittenden County 2-0 earlier in the tournament on Saturday. The Lady Tigers won 25-5, 25-15.
Mitchell led the CCHS attack with 14 kills and only two errors in 17 attacks, and Prowell dished out 23 assists. Griggs had the hot hand at the service line, handing out six aces.
On defense, Tays and Mitchell each repelled three of the team’s 12 digs.
The Lady Tigers hosted Christian County Tuesday night.
Caldwell County will visit Crittenden County in a 7 p.m. Thursday match, then will travel to Hopkins Co. Central or a District 7 match-up on Tuesday.
The Caldwell County girls’ soccer team took two tough road losses this week, falling 4-1 at Lyon County on Saturday and taking a 3-2 loss at Paducah Tilghman on Monday.
In what turned out to be a slugfest at Paducah Tilghman, senior forward Kaylee McEnaney and junior midfielder Kendall Boyd each scored unassisted goals for the Lady Tigers (3-2).
Senior goalkeeper Karsyn Parker stayed busy in the net, turning back nine saves for CCHS.
Sophomore Kiersa Atnip was prolific for the Tornado, putting in all three goals. Junior Shelby Nickel had an assist on one of those scores.
In goal, junior Kate LeBuhn also had an active night in the net, notching 11 saves.
Against Lyon County, sophomore forward Laken White scored the team’s lone goal on a feed from McEnaney.
Parker had five saves in the game in goal for CCHS.
Caldwell County will host St. Mary on Saturday in the first part of a girls-boys double-header. The Lady Tigers’ game begins at 5:30 p.m.
The Caldwell County boys’ soccer team won 2-1 at Paducah Tilghman on Monday. Information for that game was not available.
The Tigers (2-1) will visit Trigg County for a 7 p.m. Thursday game, then hosts St. Mary is a girls-boys double-header, with the boys’ game starting at 7 p.m. Saturday.
